How do I get started?
If you are here, reading this page, you’ve already taken the first steps to beginning therapy. The next step is reaching out.
I offer an initial, free 15-minute phone consultation. Please call (707) 564-7579 and leave me a message. I’ll return your call as soon as I’m able to.
In our initial consultation I’ll ask a few questions. It can be helpful to start thinking about the answers now. I may be curious about:
What brings you to therapy at this time?
How do you understand this issue?
What are you hoping to get out of therapy?
If you’ve been in therapy before, what did you find helpful? What wasn’t helpful?
At the end of our conversation I’ll let you know if I believe I can help, or if I think you’d be better served by a referral or different type of service.
If I believe I can help, we will schedule our first appointment.
Although meeting two or more times per week dramatically enhances a therapy, many people attend once a week sessions.
Sometimes, within the first few meetings, I will come to understand that a different type, duration, or frequency of therapy would be most helpful. If that is the case I will make these recommendations
If you are having a psychiatric emergency, please call 911. If are in crisis and need to speak to somebody immediately, please call 1-877-ONE-LIFE to speak with a trained crisis counselor.
